Instruction and Coaching

I offer friendly instruction and personal coaching in Film-Based and Digital Photography for individuals and groups, at my home in rural Western Massachusetts. I have a lifetime of creative and teaching experience in photography, and decades of practice within several traditions of contemplative meditation. As a senior software engineer, I am comfortable with computers and the digital imaging workflow. In addition, my wife and I are fortunate to live in one of the most charming and photogenic areas of the country, which provides natural beauty all year long.

Location
The Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, is the home of four colleges and a University - and all the cultural amenities which go along with a "Five College" region. At the same time, the area has variety of outdoor attractions typical of rural New England: antique farmhouses, maple and pine forests, streams, hills and mountains. Our home is situated next to an old waterfall, on a small lake, adjacent to a state park, a short distance from the Mount Holyoke Range. We are an hour's drive from New Hampshire, Vermont, the Berkshires, as well as the charming "Hill Towns" of rural Massachusetts, such as Conway, Buckland, Shelburne Falls, etc.

Below are photos I have made within a few feet of my home. There are countless other opportunities to make great photographs within a short drive. For year-round shooting of flowers and plants, there are several fine conservatories in the area, as well as several state parks. In season, my wife maintains flower gardens, providing an endless supply of fresh subject matter.

Facilities
I have a fully-equipped and well ventilated darkroom, as well as several computer workstations and an Epson scanner and printer. I also have folding wooden field cameras, a metal monorail view camera, a large selection of modern and vintage lenses, medium format folding cameras, and a selection of digital equipment.

Lodging and Amenities
Because we live in the "Five-College" area, there is a broad selection of hotels and motels in the vicinity, as well as a large number of excellent restaurants, theaters, cafes, pizzerias, bookstores, shopping destinations, etc.
